More information and online registration: PALS April 2025 Chess Tournament

Five sections: K-2 (unrated), K-5 (unrated), K-12 (unrated), K-12 (USCF rated), Open (USCF rated). The Open section is open to players of all ages and ratings.


This section is open to players of all ages and ratings who have a current USCF membership.


Please note: A United States Chess Federation membership is required for all players in the rated K-12 and Open sections.  If you do not have an active USCF membership, please sign up from this link: https://new.uschess.org/join-us-chess

Entry Fee$40 for the Open section (USCF rated) $30 for the K-12 (USCF rated) $25 for the K-2, K-5 and 6-12 un-rated sections * There will be a special 5$ discount for the unrated and K-12 Rated sections for Challenge to Excellence students!
PrizesAll other sections (K-2, K-5, and K-12 unrated and K-12 rated): Trophies for top five in each division, large medals for 6th-10th place. Chess Queen trophy for the top girl in each section. David vs Goliath trophy for the top kindergartener and the top elementary student. Large medals for outstanding sportsmanship awards in un-rated sections, and medals for all participants! Highest prize fund in the state with 90% of entry fees returned as prize money!
RegistrationCheck in is from 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. Mandatory players meeting will start at 8:30 a.m.
Round TimesRound 1: 9:00; Round 2: 10:00; Round 3: 11:00 followed by a lunch break; Round 4: 12:30 p.m.; Round 5: 1:30 p.m.; Awards Ceremony: 2:30 p.m.

Anyone not checked in by 8:30 a.m. will get a half-point bye for the first round.

Half-point byes may be requested for any round as long as they are requested prior to the start of the tournament. After the tournament begins, half-point byes may only be requested for rounds 1-3.

Registrations must be received by Friday, 4/18/2025
