The championship Section consisted of 16 players; four seeded titled players from the US Closed and the top 12 qualifiers from the Saturday Swiss. The format for the Championship Section was knockout elimination rounds. Each round consisted of two games (each player getting white once) at G/15 and a playoff game if needed. Playoff games were played with white having 6 minutes and black 5 minutes, with black having draw odds. Players who were eliminated from the Championship Section were then seeded into the consolation bracket.
